New Deal/WPA Art in Bolivar, Tennessee

Most of the post office works of art were funded under the TreasuryDepartment's Section commissions. Those works that were created using TRAPfunds are so indicated. Although the WPA funded the construction of postoffice buildings, the artwork was not WPA but was usually produced underthe Section or TRAP programs.

The Bolivar, TN Post Office was built in 1940.It is home to a mural, entitled "Picking Cotton," painted in1941 by artist Carl Nyquist. The dimensions of the mural are 13'5"x 5'.
